The Kit Kat Cake
This is a chocoholic's dream. Chocolate mud cake covered with a chocolate ganache and the rim decorated with Kit Kats or Cadbury Finger biscuits.
This is also a novice cake makers dream, why, because it so easy to make.
This cake is my lazy cake, if I need to make a cake and I don't feel like putting in hours and hours of effort, I would make this.
The cake is fool proof, super easy to make.
The ganache needs no skill to apply as it is completely covered with the Kit Kats and M&M's (or lollies, chocolates or fresh fruit), you won't see any flaws.
It can be made days in advance, which allows you to make it calmly, no panic.
If making a two tiered one, bake a second cake about 18cm round, any cake recipe you like, I tend to use my choc marbled mud cake recipe. Double the ganache recipe also for a two tiered one. You will also need to buy an additional two packets of kit kats or cadbury finger biscuits.
I like to have extra decorations like kit kats and lollies, as you don't want to start the cake and then find out you don't have enough. But it can be an expensive cake to make. So whether you are on a budget or not, if you are planning on making this cake, watch out for sales on Kit Kat Blocks and M&M's in advance, even pay attention to sales on the chocolate in the cake ingredients and ganache, truly if you can get them on sale you would save a bundle. And you can shop weeks in advance.
This is easy and always looks impressive.

Bake the Chocolate Mud Cake up to 5 days before needed.
As for the ganache, you can make it and spread it over the cakes days before needed. Ganache actually will last as long as the use by date is on the cream. I generally like to do it the day before only, but you can make it days before if your cream expiration date is way past your party date.
Assembly:
Decorate your cake board, however you like. Place a dollop of ganache in the centre of your cake board. Cut out a piece of baking paper the size of your cake, place it on the dollop of ganache.
Trim the top of your cake, so you have a smooth, flat top.
Place another dollop of ganache on the baking paper, place the chocolate mud cake on the baking paper, spread it carefully with some ganache (you don't want to dirty the cake board). The top of the cake can be a thin layer of ganache, but around the sides, I like to spread it a little thicker, so the Kit Kats have something to stick to.
Place the Kit Kats around the cake, push onto the ganache. I like to keep the kit kats in sets of two sticks together.
Make sure your cake is nice and round and the kit kats look good. Place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to set the kit kats to the ganache.
Once set, you can take the cake out of the refrigerator and leave it out until needed. Place a ribbon around the base of the cake, keeps the Kit Kats from moving.
On the party day I pour in the M&M's (or assorted lollies or fruit) to fill to the top, it needs to be full to look nice.
